Towards a Zero-waste economy with Ayesha Ahmed

Bhopal Startup Stories

The green economy is defined as an economy that aims at making issues of reducing environmental risks and ecological scarcities, and that aims for sustainable development without degrading the environment. The population is increasing exponentially, so is the demand for products. Our limited resources are getting exploited at an alarming rate. A lot of studies suggest we must find alternatives to products which can be replaced or reduce the use to a safer level.

A lot of Eco-friendly products were introduced in the market in the past decade. Ayesha Ahmed’s Artsy Craftsy is one among them. Her products are born out of her passion for art and the nag to create change, no matter how small.

How it started

“I had gone to market with my mother where I saw corn husk flowers were lying in a dusty corner behind a store. That was the spark which became a very dedicated fire and made me start this venture of mine!”

Ayesha makes decorative pieces such as flowers, bouquets, coasters etc. with corn husk and get them delivered to events and parties. She adds colours to husk, making them immensely beautiful and attractive. Her business approach is zero waste friendly where the product lasts longer than the alternative, i.e. flowers. A corn husk decorative piece stays fresh for more than a week and is as natural as a flower.

“Tum us jugnoo ki tarah ho jise maloom nahi ki roshni usi ke ander hai. Bahar niklo aur us roshni ko dhundho” Ayesha’s favorite quote from a song.

Ayesha started her entrepreneurial journey from her college in 2017, in her first year of graduation. She is a graduate now and is all set to expand her wings and conquer the market. She manufactures at her home in Bhopal, and COVID sure has slowed down her speed but hasn’t shaken her dedication.

Zero waste approach has its cons and pros. Some think its too restrictive, some people call it minimal. Irrespective of the opinions, it is the need of the hour. Zero waste is an unachievable goal, but any step closer to it is every step closer towards a better environment.

Art is the answer to a lot of our problems, and solution to many. A brilliant mind and an amazing person such as Ayesha is proving this right with her venture – Artsy Craftsy. For starting small towards a better tomorrow with consistency by her side, Ayesha is an achiever, our Indian Achiever!
